It was the story of this researcher who discovered oleocanthal, one of the polyphenol compounds found in extra virgin olive oil, that made us want to launch Terre d’Eccezione<\/span>. Our goal is to educate the consumer on the incredible benefits of true extra virgin olive oil and tune them into the difference between the good food and what they\u2019re typically finding on the supermarket shelf.<\/p>\n

But what are polyphenols?<\/h3>\n

Polyphenols are one type of health-protective antioxidants that are found in extra virgin olive oil. Like other antioxidants, polyphenols fight oxidative stress and are proven to\u00a0fight against<\/a>\u00a0aging-related diseases like heart disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and\u00a0certain types of cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In addition to the anti-aging properties of polyphenols, they also contain strong anti-inflammatory properties. A study<\/a>\u00a0showed that extra virgin olive oil contains a certain phenol compound called oleocanthal, which acts similar to ibuprofen in the body. It\u2019s\u00a0thoug<\/a>ht that<\/a>\u00a0two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil a day is enough to provide these anti-inflammatory benefits.<\/p>\n

There was even\u00a0news<\/a>\u00a0of a Louisiana startup company called Oleolive that is studying and developing oleocanthal found in extra virgin olive oil, to treat and possibly cure Alzheimer\u2019s. I can\u2019t vouch for their claims but if they’re real, WOW.<\/p>\n
